Skived fin heat sink is heat sink with very high fin ratio which is not extrusion friendly. Used for forced convection with very strong air flow as high fins density is not ideal for natural convection as heat will be trapped between fins result in higher temperature to your system.
Can be cost effective and more consistent if it is used to replace bonded fin. In the past, bonded fin heat sink was created due to fin ratio limitation for extrusion process. However, with technology advancement, we are able to produce extruded heat sink with high fin ratio of 30:1 (fin height to fin spacing) hence reduced usage of bonded fin heat sink.
Today, bonded fin will be used when the size of the heat sink is too wide and cannot be extruded. ( for our factory, beyond W450 x H60 mm)
